§ 21-29. Cross-connections, backflow and siphonage prohibited.

  • (a)

    Cross-connections between the town potable water system and other systems or equipment containing water or other substances of unknown or questionable safety are prohibited, except when and where, as approved by the manager, suitable protective devices such as the reduced pressure zone backflow preventer or equal are installed, tested and maintained to ensure proper operation on a continuing basis.

    (b)

    The town potable water system shall be protected against backflow and backsiphonage by installing and maintaining at fixtures, equipment and outlets, where backflow or backsiphonage may occur, a suitable preventer as approved by the manager; provided that nothing herein shall require such a device on residential units existing at the time of enactment of this section, unless it is determined by the manager that such a device is required for the protection of the water system.
