§ 12-2. Residential receptacles—Required; specifications.

  • (a)

    The occupants of every house or other private residence within the town shall have all garbage and trash accumulated on such premises, placed in receptacles meeting the requirements of this section.

    (b)

    Receptacles required by this section shall be constructed of metal or some other material approved by the town manager, shall be water tight and durable and shall have a capacity of not more than forty (40) gallons. Each such receptacle shall have adequate handles and a tight fitting cover. The cover shall be kept on the receptacle at all times.

    (c)

    Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (b) above, trash, as distinguished from garbage, may be placed in any container with handles.

    (d)

    It shall be unlawful for the occupant of any premises to have, maintain or keep any garbage or trash on the premises, except receptacles or containers meeting the requirements of this section.

    (e)

    The town manager, with the concurrence of the town council, will set a maximum number of receptacles to be allowed for each dwelling unit, as defined in the town's zoning ordinance.
